Property Casualty Association of America issued the following announcement on April 18.
April 20 is National Weed Day, and according to JAMA Internal Medicine, traffic fatalities are 12 percent more likely on 4/20 after 4:20pm than on the same day one week before or one week after. The American Property Casualty Insurers Association (APCIA) warns all drivers to be especially cautious on the road this weekend.
“Like with any impairment, driving high is reckless and illegal every day of the year,” said Eileen Gilligan, assistant vice president of public affairs at APCIA. “Evidence shows that marijuana use can impair critical abilities necessary for safe driving, such as judgment, motor coordination, and reaction time. Driving under the influence of marijuana jeopardizes everyone’s safety on the roads.”
