Amica has suggestions for dealing with overly aggressive drivers

It seems like Americans are seeing more and more road rage issues on the news every month.

Amica Insurance, in a recent release, offers drivers some valuable tips to ensure their safety – as well as the safety of others – when they are faced with an angry motorist.

It is important to first identify some telltale signs, Amica said in the release. Those signs include running stop signs and/or red lights, tailgating or coming up on another car quickly, passing on the right, making unsafe lane changes or sharp movements and excessive horn honking.

If you encounter any of these behaviors, it is best to try to de-escalate the situation before it becomes even more unsafe, the release said.

Some suggestions from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are trying to get out of their way, not making any eye contact, ignoring angry gestures and under no circumstance returning them and avoiding anything that may be construed as a challenge, such as speeding up.

Motorists should report overly aggressive drivers to authorities and take note of the vehicle, license plate number, location and direction of travel, the release said.
