American Insurance Association taps O’Malley for SVP of public policy

American Insurance Association (AIA) has named Michael O’Malley senior vice president for public policy.

O’Malley’s appointment will take effect March 16, at which time he will be responsible for public policy development at AIA, the company said in a press release.

O’Malley, who has a background in policy and government affairs in the insurance industry, is president of O’Malley Public Policy Collaborations LLC. He was previously with the Chubb Group of insurance companies for 23 years, most recently as senior vice president of state government affairs and mandated business.

“We are excited for Mike to join our team,” Leigh Ann Pusey, AIA’s president and CEO, said in the news release. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and a forward thinking approach to the policy issues facing the property-casualty industry. As a former employee of an AIA member company, Mike is well-versed in the needs of our membership. His experience representing our industry throughout the country gives him an unparalleled perspective.”

O'Malley looks forward to working at AIA again.

“It’s a tremendous thrill to be returning to AIA, an organization I’ve participated in for many years,” O’Malley said. “From the regulation of autonomous vehicles to modernizing commercial lines products, AIA is at the forefront of the major legislative and regulatory debates facing insurers. I’m excited to work with the membership on policies that foster innovation, promote efficient regulation and emphasize the important societal role of our industry.”
